What your opener is telling you
- Nothing happens at all, no lights: power, a tripped outlet or a failed logic board after a surge.
- Remote dead but the wall button works: a remote that needs reprogramming, a weak battery or a failing radio receiver.
- Door stops partway and the light flashes: safety sensors out of alignment, dirty lenses or a damaged sensor wire; we realign, clean or rewire them.
- Opener runs, then quits halfway up: force setting too low for the door, or a door out of balance that the opener is fighting.
- Wall control lights up but does nothing: failed wall button or broken low-voltage wiring.
- Motor hums but the door stays put: almost always a stripped drive gear or worn sprocket inside the head unit, which we replace with a new gear kit.
If the door feels heavy by hand, the opener is not the root problem. See spring repair in Vanier or cable repair in Vanier.
Why openers fail in Vanier
Vanier, Overbrook and Beechwood have older compact homes, duplexes and some newer infill, often with small detached or tuck-under garages. Tight garages and older doors mean openers here strain more, so we see stripped gears and limit settings that no longer match a sagging door.
Opener repairs we do in Vanier
- Stripped gear and sprocket replacement: New drive gear and sprocket kit for chain and belt units, then a full limit and force reset.
- Remote, keypad and car reprogramming: New remotes, keypads and built-in car buttons paired to your opener.
- Safety sensor alignment and rewiring: Brackets straightened, lenses aligned and damaged wires replaced.
- Force and travel limit adjustment: Recalibrated so the door seats firmly on the floor and reverses safely on contact.
- Logic board replacement: For units with surge or moisture damage when the motor itself is healthy.
- Chain and belt tension: Set to spec to stop slapping, slipping and premature sprocket wear.
We repair LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie and Craftsman openers. If a repair is not worth it, we say so and quote a replacement on our opener installation page for Vanier.
How a repair visit goes
- Disconnect the opener and lift the door by hand to test balance.
- Open the head unit and inspect the gear, sprocket and logic board.
- Quote the repair in writing before any work.
- Fix the fault and tune chain or belt tension.
- Run safety and reversal tests and show you the release cord.
