Is it the spring? Quick checks for Manotick homeowners
You don't need tools to tell. Stand clear of the door and look and listen:
- A gap in the coil on the spring over the door, usually a few centimetres wide.
- Cables hanging loose beside the tracks, or unwound from the drums at each end of the bar.
- The door feels like a wall when you pull the red emergency release and try to lift it.
- The opener strains, lifts a hand's width, then reverses.
- A loud bang from the garage, often on a cold morning, with nothing out of place.
Leave it closed. Without a working spring, the door's full weight is on the opener and the top section. If it's stuck partway open, keep people and pets out from under it and call us.
Why springs break in Manotick
Two very different housing stocks. Manotick was founded as a mill village on the Rideau River in the 1860s and has been part of the City of Ottawa since 2001.
